County parks trash dump

Hidden by the summers foliage at least one county park has become a trash dump for surrounding residents. Days dam probably the jewel of Lorain Counties Metro park system is being used as a dump. Finding tires, shopping carts, toys, and the just plain trash. Conversely, should we be spending money on new swimming facilities when our parks could use a cleanup. Moreover, this trash has obviously come from the neighborhoods surrounding the park. The cleanup will cost the park system money can anyone be held responsible for this mess?

We are going to find out the answers and I will keep you posted on the progress of this investigation.

  1. Don't groups like the Boy Scouts and such clean up the parks every Earth Day? I remember doing so when I was younger.

Perhaps I will again when I retire in a few months.

  2. In the summer of 2009, Lorain spent a large amount of money on motion triggered cameras that they claimed would be used to catch dumping from Riverside Drive.

  3. The most important question is how do you police this. Once you clean it, how will you keep it clean. Will their be cameras put up to catch the perpetrators or will people who live in the neighborhood tell on who's doing the dumping?
What penalty or penalties are in place for those who are caught. The judge could make them work in the parks cleaning them or perhaps shame them making them hold a sign.

  4. When enjoying the Lorain metro-parks we regularly see the rangers driving around in their trucks - but NEVER see them cleaning up the parks. So what are we paying these guys for? At least they could initiate some volunteer clean-up efforts OR request that some of Lorain's finer citizens who have been sentenced with community service hours - and let them clean up the parks.

  5. This area has been cleaned up by several differnt organization like my boy scout troop along with the metro parks staff. unfortantly most people don't care about the enviroment. Also I have seen metro parks employees stop and pick up trash in the parking lots and empty trash cans but there is only so much I think they can do.

  6. This is OUR park system and we need to support it 100%. It's true that park employees can only do so much...Several years ago I was a seasonal park employee. It's sad that people don't care where they throw their trash. EVERYONE needs to "pitch in"...

  7. Ever since the "Splash Zone" went in down the road, there has been more litter around, especially in the creek further up the street. There is a drainage ditch in front of this metro park that is filled with junk around the drain. When it rains a lot, that is the first place that floods-I wonder why?
I too have never seen a park ranger collecting trash, or doing anything except driving around.
