Thanks

I understand that city taxes went up and the school levy passed. I wonder how many folks will be driven out by short sighted policys.

Not economics it’s demographics

I want to point out something that white Anglo Saxon Americans won't or cannot understand. You and I as an Anglo Saxon White American are the minority in this country. Think back to the days when the pilgrims' came to this country they were the minority and over time they became the majority. I sure this was not lost on Native Americans. Now the something is happening again as Latinos will soon become the majority in this country. I have written about this in previous blogs and it seems that people either doesn't want to see it or just can't accept the change in this country. The only thing constant in life is change and the United States is not immune. The re -election of the president was in a great part to Latinos, women and young people of which I am not. One does wonder if I and the rest of my old white guy Americans will qualify for special treatment as a minority?

Five Billion

Between the President and Mitt Romney, they will spend about five billion dollars during this election cycle. Money of that kind would go a long way to help those folks in the northeast. Most folks can think of many areas where five billion bucks could be spent better. I cannot even imagine spending that kind of money on a job where about half the people in the country hate you; some folks would put a bullet in you given half a chance. Being president also carries on long after you're gone. Look at Jimmy Carter. He was not a very good president, but he turned out to be a great former president. After all, the job of being president itself only pays about two hundred fifty thousand a year…..hardly worth the trouble.

Shame to die now

I think it's a shame when anyone dies. For many, the death of someone leaves a hole, a void in their lives. In these times I believe dying is especially hard for some who will not know how things will turn out for the country and for the world. Perhaps I am presumptuous to think that people care that much. I find myself wondering if we as a country will get back to the days of the 50's and 60's, what Tom Brokaw speaks about as "the good old days". I just feel bad for those folks who pass away between now and the election. However, folks who do die their problems may be over and they no longer care what happens to the country and the world.

Moment

Like the fifteen minutes of fame folks say that everyone has a moment.  I wonder if we will know when and if it happens!  Will it be one of those wow it just happened or will it be many years later upon reflection that we will know that it happened and we were totally oblivious.

Why medical costs are high.

About four months ago I sprained and or strained my Achilles tendon on my right ankle. Many of you know that I have been nurse for many years so; I believe that I know what needs to be done as far as treatment. I attempted to rehab the injury over time but, I thought I needed some physical therapy and called the doctor for an order. Well, one might think that it should end there with an order and that was that. However, after a week of waiting I received a call to go and have an x-ray and it was negative for fracture. So, time for rehab right? Wrong, my physician requested to see me for an exam and the results of that meeting suggested an MRI to rule out a tear in tendon. Anyone want to guess what happened next? Well, the insurance company denied the request stating that I had not had a course of guess what ……..rehab! After some conversation with the insurance company the MRI was allowed. Anyone want to guess what the result of the study was? Bursitis and tendonitis and do you know what is indicated to remedy this problem……….Wrong again, refer to an orthopedic surgeon.

The cost so far, the flat plate x-ray was $30.00, office exam $200.00, MRI $1000.00 and I must give my physician a brake and she has ordered all these tests to cover her posterior. She as a physician cannot take a chance so all the tests take the chance of being sued to a low level.

I am stopping it there and not going to see the specialist. Rehab well somehow I think I'll be doing that on my own.

Home from the hill

I always expected that even into my seventies and later that I would still be a hunter. Over the last few years that feeling has begun to fade and now it is all but gone. I think as I have grown in years the value of life has very important to me and that means any life well, almost any I still have little grief over smashing a spider. Hunting which in the past had brought so much joy now seems like an enormous waste of time and effort and the actual kill leaves me sad and almost ashamed.
